As Obiter reported back in July, musical lawyers Denis Cameron and Basil Preuveneers, both Law Society council members, were convinced they could make as much cash from busking as from being a legal aid lawyer.
After a rousing stint in London’s Covent Garden, with Cameron on guitar and Preuveneers playing both trumpet and accordion, it seems they have proved their point. Just about. Playing for 40 minutes, they raised a grand total of £60.
By our reckoning, that equates to £90 per hour, which split between the two is £45 per hour each – roughly the same as some legal aid rates. Still, with a big turnout from solicitor colleagues, just £60 in the cap does seem a bit tight. Clearly, most of their audience must have been hard-up legal aid lawyers. QED.
