Obiter loves a lawyer wedding, and it’s all the sweeter when plans are based on a sound grasp of public policy and legal developments. Step forward TLT associate Peter Richards-Gaskin (pictured), who just got engaged to another City lawyer.

The firm had thought it would be celebrating its first civil partnership. But Peter’s timing is sharper than that, and he proposed to his partner in Mauritius just as the coalition government launched its consultation on changing the law to allow gay marriage. All being well, Peter’s nuptials should now coincide with a change in the law.

His colleagues shouldn’t be surprised at such prescience. Peter met his partner at one of Village Drinks’ political networking events. And sitting on TLT’s equality and diversity committee, Peter’s remit covers marriage and civil partnership.

On this form, Obiter thinks guests can expect timings on the happy day to be spot on.
