Think of a football sugar daddy and a Russian oligarch or wealthy Arab springs to mind. But in Devon, it is a law firm that is funding one club’s battle against relegation. South-west firm Follett Stock has already sponsored Exeter City for two years, but wanted an even greater input into the club’s performance.

After discussions with manager Paul Tisdale, the firm has stumped up the cash to bring striker Jamie Cureton - Exeter’s top scorer last season - back from Leyton Orient on loan.

‘We enjoy supporting such a great club and love the fact that it is owned by the fans with no Mister Big calling the shots,’ said Follett managing partner Chris Lingard. Cureton (pictured) made his return on Saturday, but sadly could not mark it with a goal. At the time of writing, the club hovers precariously one place and one point above relegation from League One.
