The capital’s cabbies aren’t cheap, so a free ride is not to be sniffed at.

The Law Society's Sound off for Justice campaign was offering Londoners precisely that last week.

The campaign hired three specially branded black cabs, complete with iPad and iPhones, to give people free journeys in the capital and encourage them to ‘sound off’ while travelling.

The campaign’s 1,161 Twitter followers could find out where and when the cabs were available via @soundoffjustice.

In a separate piece of theatre, campaigners accosted Kenneth Clarke outside Millbank Studios to make some strident points about the impact of the cuts; as if the embattled justice secretary wasn’t having a bad enough week already.

The campaign’s petition has now reached 10,189 signatures.
