Forget London’s Boris Bikes, one Tottenham firm has taken matters into its own hands to get its staff cycling to work. Conscious of the need to promote green awareness and reduce its carbon footprint, legal aid firm Wilsons has pedalled aboard the government’s cycle to work scheme.

Having set the wheels in motion by buying 20 bikes, it has now installed a bicycle shelter at the front of its grade II listed Georgian building on Tottenham High Road. The shelter, which accommodates 10 bikes, was opened in style last week by councillor Nilgun Canver, Haringey cabinet member for the environment.

Up to a quarter of the firm’s 80 employees now regularly get on their bikes to cycle to the office. The firm provides onsite bicycle maintenance every three months and has installed showers to ensure its staff are fresh-smelling as well as fit. Obiter commends their cycling proficiency.
