If the epicentre of London’s legal world, where Obiter spends long days, was better served by branches of Matalan, we would have been straight down there for some Union Flag-themed cagoules to mark our patriotism in this Jubilee ‘n’ Olympics year.

Obiter is therefore grateful to the Freshfields choir for staging an event nearby that has the right ‘vibe’ - Vivaldi’s Gloria, tonight (July 17 at 6.15pm) at local Fleet Street church St Dunstan-in-the-West. Drinks and nibbles are promised. The Gloria was first performed by a fairly captive choir - basically drawn from an institution housing the illegitimate daughters of Venetian noblemen. Obiter is reassured to find that the Freshfields choir was formed in 2008 of volunteers only, from across the magic circle firm’s London Office.

Is your firm or legal department making music this year? Obiter would like to know details.
