Obiter’s recent news that Law Society president Linda Lee saw her own daughter admitted as a solicitor earlier this month sparked a rush of correspondence.

Last week the Gazette heard from Charles Palmer, who recalled his embarrassment at not being able to understand Lord Denning’s accent during his own admission ceremony, while his father Sir John Palmer was president.

This week Obiter received a letter from Pinner solicitor Susan Singleton, who writes: ‘My daughter is due to be admitted in September.

'She attended my admission ceremony, aged 11 months, in 1985, and had to be ejected from the chamber for noise.

'She remains lively to this day. She much enjoyed climbing up and down the Law Society staircase with her father while the more tedious speeches went on.

'Her younger sister will also be admitted in March next year. I hope they have as much fun in law as I have had.’
