Plans for a merger that would have created a £430m transatlantic firm have been called off after three months of talks. Transatlantic firm Womble Bond Dickinson and City firm BDB Pitmans revealed that they were in ‘early discussions around a potential merger’.

However in a statement today the firms said that they have decided not to proceed further. 'After extensive discussions on the combined proposition, both firms have decided that the best path forward is to remain independent of each other. Excellent relationships have been established and the firms will continue to work closely together in the future.'

The firms declined to comment further.
