Obiter is a fan of the ebullient Karl Chapman, chief executive of Riverview Law and a man whose glass is never less than half full.
But there was more than a hint of The Office’s David Brent about his firm’s latest press release, in which Riverview outlines plans to take on 100 more staff.
Chapman explains that he had asked colleagues at a recent team briefing session (‘meeting’ is apparently so 20th century) to shout out words they’d use to describe Riverview to a potential recruit. Obiter can only imagine the thrill this must have given the happy team.
In the press release Chapman explains: ‘The suggestions included “customer first”, “different”, “equality”, “fun”, “friendly”, “honest”, “liberating”, “professional” and “responsible”. He goes on: ‘To these I would add “mad”… it helps to be just a little bit mad.’
Rumours that Chapman is cultivating a goatee beard and left the office last week wearing a bird costume are, as yet, unsubstantiated.
