Price comparison site targets legal sector

Moneysupermarket.com, the price comparison website, is to start selling legal business sales leads to law firms involved in conveyancing, probate and employment, the Gazette can reveal.

Consumers visiting the website will be asked if they want advice from participating firms if they have searched for information on related topics including mortgages and wills. The company intends to launch a personal injury leads service later in the year.

Leads businesses already exist in the legal market, but this is the first time a consumer-oriented price comparison site has entered the sector.

City firms bid high for new recruits

A new batch of articled clerks, fresh from the law school pipeline, will take up their first seats this week. At the end of the month, some may pick up a pretty thin pay packet containing as little as £500 gross, while others will find more than double that sum awaiting them. Huge disparities exist between the salaries offered by large City firms and those in the provinces, ranging from a minimum of £6,000 to over £14,000.

A policy on crime

The recent audacious mail robbery makes one wonder again why the government does not realise the concern there is in the country about the growing crime rate. The police forces are still under-strength and if more money is needed to bring them up to strength it should be found. Money can always be found to deal with a possible aggression in war. Why can’t it be found to deal with actual aggression by criminals?
