Editorial policy
1. The Gazette is the membership magazine of the Law Society in its representative capacity and its flagship publication. The Gazette also acts as the Society's journal of record, reporting proceedings of the wider Society such as Council meetings and AGMs, in so far as they are of relevance and interest to members, and publishing official notices along with information from the SRA and LCS. The Gazelle does not provide a platform for debate between the constituent parts of the Law Society Group.
2. It accurately promotes the positions of the representative Law Society while continuing to report on issues of interest to solicitors. It shares the wider Society's mission to support solicitors and aims to be the best read and most influential specialist legal publication in England and Wales.
3. From time to time the Law Society CEO may exercise the right to prevent the publication of copy where it is considered to prejudice what is deemed to be in the best interests of the representative Law Society.
4. The editor is responsible for ensuring that the Gazette reports on matters of interest to solicitors, including developments in the legal world and legal aspects of the wider news agenda as well as providing up to date reports from the Society. The editor is also responsible for maintaining the reputation and standing of the Gazette amongst the profession. The Gazette's focus is always on issues of relevance to the profession and promoting the interests of solicitors. It does not avoid controversial issues. Its letters page, for example, offers the primary vehicle for the full range of views and opinion from across the Law Society Group and the legal profession.
5. The views expressed should be taken as those of the author only unless it is specifically indicated that the Law Society or the Gazelle has given its endorsement. Advertisements will be vetted for compliance with the Advertising Standards Authority code.
6. The Advisory Board may from time to time issue detailed guidance notes on the application of new policy.
