The resignation of senior Foreign Office minister Baroness Warsi has intensified pressure on the government over its stance on Gaza.
The prime minister has attracted criticism by appearing to prevaricate on the legality of Israeli military action in response to missile attacks on its own civilians. ‘I’m not an international lawyer,’ said David Cameron yesterday. ‘It’s up to international lawyers. But international law is very, very clear: the use of force always has to be proportionate, that civilians should not be targeted.’
